Good morning from the beach!!
We made it here late last night, unloaded our stuff, and crashed into bed. I slept on a real mattress for the first time in 3 weeks and I slept like a rock. I’ve been sleeping on a blow up mattress since I sold my bed when I moved out of my old apartment and it’s been fine, but over this past week my back is starting to feel it so a real bed was glorious!
Backing up to yesterday morning, I couldn’t sleep very well so after tossing and turning from about 6:30-7am I got up, drank a green smoothie and some coffee and went out for a run [!!] It was so gorgeous out and I covered about 4 miles without stopping which is far for me these days, but it’s exactly what my body wanted and it felt really, really good.
Came back to a big bowl of oatmeal with lots ‘o fruit, and then headed off to church where I cried through the whole service. The pastor who led the Nicaragua trip I went on last September gave an incredible sermon that really got to my heart and then I just cried through the worship music because I was so sad to be leaving. Portico means so much to me that its hard to even articulate, but all I can say is that it’s really hard to leave and the reality that I’m actually moving didn’t hit me until yesterday and then it was all kinds of waterworks.
After church I came home to eat some lunch and then headed off to Whit’s graduation! This girl has been through quite the year. The higher education program she was in at UVA was an accelerated master’s program that was only 12 months so she was beyond busy between her grad assistantship and school. I’m so proud of her!!
And despite her basement apartment being flooded this weekend, she’s managed to stay in good spirits. We were over there yesterday afternoon cleaning up and getting all her clothes out of the apartment so they don’t mildew and I felt so bad. Everything she owns is wet, but she’s kept everything in perspective. Thank goodness her parents are in town and she is leaving town so she won’t have to stay there.
After graduation we hit up Whole Foods for lunch #2, grabbed some snacks and coffees for the road and headed to the beach!
And now I’m sitting on the back deck, sipping coffee and about to crack my bible for some quiet time. I’m already eyeing that hammock for a nap this afternoon.
I’ll be back Wednesday and Friday for a post and will be answering email once a day, but my hope is to really unplug this week, soak up every second of sunshine, rest and relaxation and just to be present.
Wherever you are today, I hope its full of happiness!
