I got back from Long Island last night and it was the sweetest little small town getaway from the city. My friend, Megan, was living out there and working in the wine industry for three years before moving to NYC for school. It was nothing like I thought Long Island would be. We were in Mannituck, a quaint town full of local businesses, vineyards, cozy bars and lots of charm. It was so refreshing to be back in a small town where everyone knows everyone- even if we didn’t know anyone.
Usually the WIAW‘s I post are typical days where I’m drinking my green smoothie, eating my oatmeal, packing my lunch and eating vegetables for dinner. That’s great and all, but that’s not 100% real life. And thank God it’s not because that would be boring.
So after forgetting to take any pictures of food our first day there, I tried to document everything I ate yesterday. And I think this day is a good replication of what my eats look like about once a week- usually on a Saturday when I’m out and about in the city and not eating at home.
It was a delicious 48 hours, and tomorrow I’ll probably wake up craving my usual green smoothie and oatmeal. And I think that a better replication of the natural rhythm of life when it comes to food.
Yesterday morning we woke up around 8:30, got ready and walked down to a coffee shop called Altos where we ordered coffees and bought a bag of biscotti to eat since we were hungry and breakfast was an hour or so away.
Coffee + foamed soy milk + two chocolate almond biscottis (I snapped this picture after eating one)
Then Megan made us an amazing breakfast of fried eggs alongside leftovers from our burritos the night before – rice and sweet potatoes and black beans- plus a couple clementines. Plus another cup of coffee. (the size of this plate and lighting makes this breakfast look sad and unappetizing, but it was delicious I promise)
I napped during the car ride back to the city and thought about getting a 6 mile run in when we got home around 6pm, but my body was just tired so I pulled on my soft clothes and laid in bed instead reading, writing this post and answering emails.
Dinner was leftover red curry over brown rice followed by some popcorn and lots of Parenthood.
And as I write this, I’m planning on falling asleep by 9pm.
I’m taking advantage of this last week with no alarm clocks before class starts Tuesday. Hope you’re having a great week too!
