Happy Friday!
How’s your first week of 2016 been? I hope restful, refreshing, and full of new beginnings. I’m quickly realizing that I am perpetually far to ambitious when making to-do lists. And this leaves me feeling like I’m constantly falling short – but today I realized the obvious…stop putting so much on your to-do list Robyn. Actually make is reasonable and you’ll end the day on a high note. So that’s my plan. Lowering the expectations because there aren’t 36 hours in a day.

Agreed, having suffered from hypothalamic amenorrhea for three years and recovered with a healthy natural cycle I can stand by this. The body adapts and begins to take protective measures when it feels starvation. Low estrogen levels led to osteopenia that also took a while to repair (lots of frustrating stress fractures and a decline in athletic ability…not to mention the fear of not being able to reproduce when the time comes). I feel lucky to have my health back and would caution any women (especially runners and athletes) thinking of fasting or detoxing for long periods of time! Thanks for sharing–very informative!

Great video. I have to admit: I’ve thought of IF since I’ve seen so many other people do it, but I know doing any kind of fasting feeds old disordered food thoughts. For me, not eating for a length of time doesn’t make me feel good, and I like that your video addresses some of the biological reasons for this.

A couple years ago I started fasting for religious reasons and at that same time I lost my period all together for several months with it only coming back intermittently. I went to multiple doctors trying to find the problem and they all said it’s just a normal thing. I was never pleased with that… But I couldn’t figure it out. And now I know! Fasting must be the problem! I’m going to stop fasting for a while and see how that affects my body. I know it will help! Thank you so much for your insight on this.
losing your period is NEVER normal. I would encourage you to stop fasting and focus on eating enough and often and see if it returns! 🙂

Hi Robyn. Have you heard of the Gabriel Method? Along with counseling this book changed my life and my relationship to food/my body. It might be useful for your clients. Also, I know you are already committed to Whole 30, but have you thought of The Daniel Fast? It is based on the book of Daniel after Daniel refused to eat the food blessed to the gods of Babylon. It is biblically based if that is your goal and vegan. How in style was God way before it was cool:)

I have heard of the Daniel Fast but what didn’t resonate with me is allowing myself to be hungry – I’m totally not down with that and even as a strong Christian, restricting food for any reason is not something that God has put on my heart and so I’m not really for any sort of fasting – I know the Daniel Fast isn’t an all out fast, but it does have some principles – but I totally appreciate the thought! 🙂
